A Vintage 700/24 Terry

Terry 700/24 Bike

Just picked up this bike for a rock bottom price at the Bikeworks warehouse after it had been donated the day before to a Cleanscapes bin at the dump. It was in surprisingly good condition. The only disappointing thing was a dent on the top of the downtube, (possibly from being transported with other bikes in a dumpster) but structurally the frame is still sound.

Sandra was excited about the unique geometry and the fact that it fit her quite well. Two modifications it needed were a longer stem and a new saddle, since she likes a very upright riding position. In addition, she wanted wider tires, which was easy for the rear wheel, but for the front wheel we were limited to what Terry sells (32mm). The 24″ wheel is actually 520mm instead of the more widespread 507mm for youth mountain bikes.

The pod shifters worked flawlessly from the start. The headset needed tightening, but all in all, I was quite pleased with this bike’s condition. It’s now ready to ride. If Sandra ends up really liking the ride, we’ll want to powder coat it in a more pleasing color for her.
